NICET grants certification to individuals who have met the Institute's standards as established by a committee of experts in the particular practice area. An individual who has invested the effort to pursue and achieve certification is sought by employers who value demonstrated knowledge, experience, and a sense of professionalism on the part of their employees and contractors.

NICET accepts an obligation to it's certificate holders, their employers, authorities having jurisdiction, and the public at large to protect the integrity and value of the NICET certification mark by controlling its usage. The Institute maintains a public registry of its certificants and enforces the rules governing the uses of the mark.
